Institutional Archivist
Gagosien is seeking a full-time Institutional Archivist to join the New York City office.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to
– Process backlog of materials and facilitate transfer of records from relevant departments on an ongoing basis
– Develop and implement a records retention schedule, as well as document and provide training on records transfer procedures
– Create standards-compliant finding aids and container lists
– Provide reference services and respond to internal research requests
– Manage on- and off-site storage and retrieval of archival material
– Participate in planning of digital preservation workflows, including transfer, ingest, and maintenance of digital records within the Digital Asset Management System and the archives
– Plan and oversee digitization of physical materials
– Work closely with gallery Library and Press departments on procedures and requests that relate to the archives
– Maintain a basic knowledge of the gallery’s library
– Supervise archives interns
Requirements
– Master's degree in Library and Information Science with a concentration in archives
– Experience arranging and describing archival collections and employing preservation interventions; institutional archives experience preferred
– Experience with an archival collection management system
– Experience authoring and encoding finding aids using industry standards such as DACS and EAD
– Experience working with preservation activities and access related to email and web archiving
– Knowledge of and experience with standards and best practices for digitization and description of cultural heritage materials (Dublin Core, MODS, METS, PREMIS)
– Project management skills, including creating processing plans and tracking digitization workflows; ability to establish and follow through on long and short term goals, ability to clearly communicate objectives and progress to stakeholders, ability to manage budgets
– Must have knowledge of the gallery world and modern and contemporary art
– Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
– Excellent communication and written skills
– Possess excellent time management and organizational skills
– Must be able to work independently and exercise judgment as needed
– Able to complete work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
– Experience with detail-oriented work, including the ability to analyze and repurpose data

Position Type
Full-Time/Regular/Salaried position. Monday to Friday, onsite, with additional hours as needed.
Compensation
$65,000–$80,000 annually
